Vancouver, B.C., November 11, 2025 — This holiday season, travelers have a unique opportunity to give back while exploring the Andes. Peru’s award-winning Alpaca Expeditions, a 100% Indigenous-owned trekking specialist, is redefining responsible travel by creating adventures that enrich children’s lives, empower women, support local communities, and protect the environment.

Founded by Cusco native and former guide and porter Raul Ccolque, the purpose-driven travel specialist employs local staff and operates sustainably, ensuring that tourism dollars remain in the communities visited on its multiple guided treks in the Andes.
Holiday Cheer with Purpose:
Christmas and Holiday Outreach: This season, Alpaca Expeditions continues its long-standing commitment to supporting remote communities through meaningful, hands-on initiatives. Every year, Alpaca Expeditions distributes toys, school supplies, sports equipment, and teaching materials to underserved kids. Travelers are invited to join the effort by volunteering one to four days alongside Alpaca Expeditions’ team or contributing through donations.
“Guests on our tours don’t just invest in an adventure — they invest in people”, says Ccolque, Alpaca Expeditions’ General Manager. “Each trip strengthens communities, supports women and children, and helps preserve the Andes’ rich cultural heritage and our guests love it!”
Year-Round Community Initiatives:
Support for Alpaca Expeditions’ Porters and Families:
Each February, Alpaca takes its porters and their families to visit the Machu Picchu citadel. For many, it’s their first opportunity to experience the site as tourists. The company organizes this trip to honor the porters’ hard work and connection to their Peruvian heritage.
Promoting Gender Equality: Alpaca Expeditions provides childcare support and creates tourism employment opportunities for women through educational and training programs in the tourism industry.
Empowering Women Through Adventure: The operator continues to lead the way in women-focused travel with the recent launch of its newWomen’s Inca Trail Escape to Machu Picchu a 4-day journey designed for travelers seeking a more accessible route to Machu Picchu with an added touch of luxury. The itinerary combines gentle trekking with rich cultural immersion, including a Peruvian cooking class, a gentle guided day hike to Machu Picchu, a deluxe train ride, and a restorative Andes-inspired spa treatment.
The new tour follows the success of the 7-Day Women’s Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, introduced in 2023 and catered to experienced trekkers seeking a more in-depth Andes adventure with unique accommodations such as glamping, glass cabanas, Hobbit houses, and hotel stay, local wine tasting, cooking lessons, and more. Both itineraries are led entirely by women, for women, creating meaningful cultural connections while empowering women travelers, porters, and guides alike.
Cultural Sunday Educational Excursions:
The Cultural Sundays program introduces children and parents from remote villages to heritage sites, fostering cultural identity, learning, and connection to nature. Children visit Inca sites to connect with their rich heritage.
Dental Missions in Remote Villages: Every two months, Alpaca Expeditions organizes dental health campaigns in remote villages, where many of its porters’ families live. Dentists teach children proper brushing techniques and dental hygiene. Alpaca’s guests can donate toothbrushes and toothpaste at Alpaca Expeditions’ Cusco headquarters.
